The IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells La Quinta triathlon took place Sunday, December 9, attracting over 2,300 athletes. Since January 2018, the City has worked with the team at IRONMAN, the Cities of Indio, La Quinta and Palm Desert, the County of Riverside Emergency Management, the California Highway Patrol, the Riverside County Sheriff, the County Fire Department, American Medical Response and local police agencies to create a traffic plan that would accommodate the race while having minimal impact on residents and businesses.
The BNP Paribas Open has been named Tournament of the Year in the Masters 1000 category by the 2018 ATP World Tour Awards for the fifth year in a row following renovations to Indian Wells stadium and Tennis Garden.
The City of Indian Wells has created a separate Facebook page just for residents. By following this page, residents will stay up to date on the latest news, messages and updates.
Since 1968, the City of Indian Wells has contracted police services from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The County provides much of the region’s law enforcement services through ten stations that stretch from the Colorado River in the east to Norco, Corona and Wildomar in the west. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is contracted by 18 of 29 cities in Riverside County.
Contracting police work through the County allows Indian Wells access to the resources of the larger Sheriff’s Department while maintaining the ability to select what type and degree of services best meet the needs of the community. For example, the City has access to County resources such as homicide investigators, aerial surveillance, search and rescue and SWAT teams to name a few. While it would be extremely costly to employ and maintain these services through the City itself, by contracting with the Sheriff’s Department, the City only pays its proportionate user costs. The contract in place with the County ensures that sworn officers patrol the streets of Indian Wells 24 hours a day.
One such patrolling Indian Wells officer is Lieutenant Justin Rowan, a native of Riverside County, who has been in law enforcement for 23 years. A sworn police officer since 1999, Rowan’s interest in law enforcement began at the age of five when he was introduced to a police officer. From then on, he knew he wanted to be a police officer, too.

INDIO, Ca, June 22, 2018: The Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District has detected more infected mosquitoes with West Nile virus (WNV). Two samples of mosquitoes tested positive yesterday; one sample of mosquitoes was collected from a trap in Indian Wells near Fairway Drive and Cook Street and the other sample was collected from a trap in Palm Desert near Portola Avenue and Shadow Mountain Drive.
These latest detections of virus activity come after the District reported the first West Nile virus activity of the year earlier this week and brings the total number of WNV-positive samples to four for 2018 in the Coachella Valley. In an effort to reduce the number of mosquitoes, interrupt virus transmission, and protect the public from mosquito-borne diseases, District staff will post disease notification signs in the communities located near the two new trap locations, continue intensified mosquito surveillance with an increase in traps and inspections for mosquito breeding sites, carry out larval and adult control as necessary in the surrounding area, and apply barrier treatments around the trap in Palm Desert.
What is EMS? EMS stands for Emergency Medical Services, and is a vital component to healthcare, public health and public safety. The public counts on EMS to help them in their worst, most harrowing moments, yet few understand exactly what medical services EMS provides. EMS saves lives from heart attacks, strokes and drowings; treats injuries due to motor vehicle collisions, shootings, stabbings and other violence; and provides care for the myraid of other illnesses and injuries that occur daily. CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department want to thank all of our EMS Personnel for all they do to help our community this month, this week, today, and everyday.

?Miramonte Indian Wells Resort & Spa, Curio Collection by Hilton, located just outside of Palm Springs, has partnered with award-winning sculptor, C.J. Rench, to create the new Miramonte Sculpture Garden.
The collaboration brings nine of Rench’s sculptures to the resort, each carefully situated throughout the garden for guests and visitors to enjoy. The pieces include large-scale abstract designs like "Caught Up II," an 8ft. tall stainless steel sculpture with a red powder coating, as well as pedestrian scale designs like "Poise," one of Rench’s first sculptures of this scope.
The artist was displaying his work at the La Quinta Arts Festival earlier this year, which lead to the eventual collaboration. "I met C.J. at the La Quinta Arts Festival and was immediately taken aback by the sleekness and beauty of his sculptures," said Matthew La Vine, general manager at Miramonte Indian Wells Resort & Spa. "I spoke with the artist and we determined our resort would be a good showcase for his work. We invite people to come by and see it."
Rench, a Hood River, OR-based designer specializing in metal sculptures, aims to invite, inspire, and connect people. "As a former sport industry designer, I would travel the world and see public art in all different settings – it was inspiring," said Rench who chose to leave the corporate world in 2005 to start a family. "There was no way I was going to raise my daughter via Skype, so I decided to try something new."
Today his work includes many large-scale commissions for public and personal collectors throughout the United States ranging from small tabletop hand-painted sculptures to monumental public installations.
